3rd Sunday of Lent
This wonderful passage is one of many examples in the Gospels a person's life being touched deeply by an encounter with Jesus, and who then become a public witness for him.

Last weekend we continued with the recording of our series on the Creed.
We got another 5 recordings finished, so we are half way. Hopefully we will be able to finish all the recordings of this first series in June, and subsequent start publishing them towards the end of the summer after all the editing work is done.
The series, called 'Credo' goes through the Creed, line by line, explaining some important aspects of our Catholic Faith.

Second Sunday of Lent
Shining out like the parabled city upon the hilltop, today's Gospel brings us a brilliant glimpse of heavenly glory in this Lenten season. St Thomas Aquinas himself saw the event as being one of the greatest miracles involving our Saviour- for being both fully human and divine this was the only moment He displayed his bodily glory, giving His chosen disciples a sighting of the brightness and splendour that their bodies would have when glorified in heaven. The true beauty of our Faith is that Jesus shares in our human nature so that we too might share in his divine nature by Grace. The transfiguration ultimately reveals the Glory we also are called to!

1st Sunday of Lent
Very often, the Gospel reading at Mass is best understood in the light of the other readings (especially the first reading, from the Old Testament). In the case of this Sunday’s Gospel, both readings provide a rich background against which to interpret the Gospel.

Ash Wednesday
To have our good actions praised is not a bad thing, it can be encouraging to have our hard work, our generosity, our commitment praised. But we humans are weak creatures, and if we come to depend on praise and recognition, we can very quickly act with only this motive in mind. The winning of approval can become our sole motivation, rather than working for the glory of God. Today’s Gospel reminds us that the opinion of our neighbours matters little, but that all our life is lived in the gaze of the Father, and it is this loving gaze that we should seek to return by almsgiving, prayer and fasting this Lent.

9th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Sometimes we can feel very comfortable with the readings we hear at Mass. You imagine that the Prophets or the Apostles are only saying the words of wisdom that you have known all along. It feels as if what we are hearing is perfectly in tune with the way we are living, and proves that we have the right kind of foundations for the Christian life. Perhaps sometimes we can feel too comfortable.
